Sajwo Raises $21.4M Series A and Credit Facility for AI Cross-Border Commerce Expansion
South Korean AI cross-border commerce platform Sajwo (사줘) has raised a total of 29.5 billion won (~$21.4M) in a combined Series A equity round and credit facility from Japanese financial institutions. The Series A portion amounts to 15.2 billion won (~$11M), bringing cumulative funding to 21.7 billion won (~$15.7M). Japan Post Capital and Suzuyo co-led the round, with participation from Naver D2SF, Japanese VC Partners Fund, and Design for Ventures. Separately, Sajwo secured credit lines from Mitsui Sumitomo and Mizuho, two of Japan's three mega-banks.
Sajwo operates an AI-powered platform that automates cross-border e-commerce — handling product translation, localization, customs HS code generation, tariff and shipping cost calculation, and document preparation. The platform currently serves consumers in South Korea, Japan, and the U.S., enabling purchases from Japanese marketplaces such as Mercari, Rakuten, and Rakuma. For unconnected stores, users can paste a URL and the platform handles the full purchase-agent workflow. The company reports monthly gross merchandise value (GMV) grew approximately 7x in the last six months, and plans to use the new capital for R&D, global expansion, and hiring.
This funding round exemplifies the 'agentic commerce' pattern where AI agents automate multi-step, cross-border transaction workflows that previously required specialized intermediaries. Sajwo sits at the intersection of AI-driven process automation and cross-border logistics, a space where incumbents like TradeGecko and Flexport have focused on B2B, but Sajwo targets the consumer direct-to-buyer segment. The involvement of Japan Post Capital and two of Japan's largest banks signals that legacy postal and financial infrastructure sees AI-native commerce platforms as a growth vector for cross-border trade, particularly between Japan and Korea. Sajwo's traction — 7x GMV growth in six months — suggests the AI workflow automation layer adds genuine friction reduction in a market where customs, language, and payment complexity have historically limited consumer adoption.
