Anthropic's Claude to Reach All Students at Digital Hollywood University

Digital Hollywood University announced on October 14 that it will introduce Claude across the institution, with access for all students, faculty, and staff beginning in November. Students will use university accounts at no charge, with usage allowances intended to support creative work and research. The university describes this as Japan's first campuswide university adoption of Claude. It joins a multi-model AI platform operating since September and connects with Campus Portal for course-specific AI teaching assistants and learning reflection.

For Anthropic, the market significance is institutional distribution: Claude will enter teaching, creative production, research, and administration through a shared university environment. This extends the foundation-model business into recurring workflows where access and integration matter alongside model capability. University president Naotaka Fujii says he developed Campus Portal himself using Claude Code and continues fixing issues after its launch. That provides a concrete link between a coding tool and broader institutional adoption, although the announcement establishes neither measured educational benefits nor commercial terms between Anthropic and the university.

Builders and investors should distinguish access from demonstrated value. The university plans to redesign assignments and assessment around AI use and establish rules for copyright and personal information. For teams pursuing education customers, the concrete implication is that a deployment must fit course workflows and institutional governance as well as provide model access. Because the platform supports multiple AI systems, this announcement also does not establish exclusive reliance on Claude.
