China's Westlake Robotics has raised nearly 100 million yuan (about $14.8 million) in a Series A round led by Haiyuan Capital, bringing its total funding to roughly $74 million across four rounds in six months. The Hangzhou-based company, founded in 2021 as a commercialization project from Westlake University, will use the funds to develop a unified whole-body large model for humanoid robots and expand its embodied-intelligence research team.
Westlake Robotics is building a full technology stack covering AI models, motion control, and humanoid hardware. Its core offering, the GAE general motion model, enables humanoid robots to replicate human movements in real time without task-specific programming. The company says GAE supports low-latency teleoperation, cross-robot motion transfer, and one-to-many control, where a single operator using motion-capture equipment can command multiple robots. Notably, GAE can be licensed for use on humanoid platforms from other manufacturers, positioning Westlake Robotics as a potential technology provider rather than just a hardware maker.
This funding underscores the intensifying competition in China's humanoid robotics sector, where startups are racing to secure capital and develop versatile AI models. For investors, the rapid fundraising pace—four rounds in six months—signals strong momentum, but also highlights the capital-intensive nature of embodied AI.
