Cognition is reportedly in talks to raise $1 billion at a $47 billion valuation.

Cognition, maker of the autonomous coding agent Devin, is said to be negotiating a new $1 billion funding round that would value the company at $47 billion, according to a report citing people familiar with the discussions. Terms have not been finalized, and Cognition has not publicly confirmed the talks.

The reported figure would mark another rapid step-up for the company. Cognition closed a $1 billion round at a $26 billion valuation in June, then was reported in mid-August to be discussing a further $1 billion raise at $40 billion — a 54% jump in about two months — around the same time Devin reportedly reached roughly $1 billion in annualized revenue and overtook Cursor on that metric. A move to $47 billion within a few more weeks would keep Cognition on one of the fastest valuation-escalation paths in the coding-agent category, pricing it closer to frontier foundation-model labs than to typical developer-tools companies. Per the AI Market Watch index, Cognition has raised more than $1.696 billion to date across its tracked funding history, a figure drawn from AMW's roughly 5,000-company index rather than a full market census.

For investors, the pace suggests late-stage backers are pricing Devin's revenue growth and recent product expansion — including July's acquisition of conversational assistant Poke — as durable enough to justify near-monthly valuation increases, though the terms remain unconfirmed and increasingly hinge on Cognition holding its lead over Cursor and other coding-agent rivals. For builders in the space, the round is another signal that capital is concentrating in a small number of agentic coding platforms, raising the bar for differentiation elsewhere in the category.
