Foundational Industries has secured $25 million in seed funding to develop a network of U.S. factories designed around physical AI, with an initial focus on manufacturing equipment for AI data centers. The round was led by BoxGroup and Zigg Capital, with participation from Abstract, Adverb Ventures, Buckley Ventures, Oceans, and Offline Ventures. The company plans to open its first facility by the end of 2026 and has not disclosed the factory's location, expected size, or specific products yet.
The company's approach is distinctive in the AI infrastructure landscape: rather than selling automation tools to existing manufacturers, Foundational Industries will own and operate its factories, orchestrating every process—from design and robotics to inspection and supply chain—through a shared AI intelligence layer. Founder and CEO Jonathan Winer, who previously worked on physical infrastructure at Alphabet's Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners, frames this as a strategic response to China's dominance in labor-intensive manufacturing, positioning AI-native production as a way for the U.S. to leapfrog rather than compete on legacy scale.
