GMO AI&Robotics Shoji Takes Stake in TechShare for Unitree Robot Distribution
GMO AI&Robotics Shoji has signed a capital and business alliance with TechShare, acquiring shares in the Japanese Unitree Robotics distributor. The partners plan to coordinate sales, promotion, maintenance, technical support, and joint solution development for Unitree humanoid and other robots in Japan. TechShare has distributed and supported Unitree products since 2020, while GMO AI&Robotics Shoji became an authorized domestic distributor in June 2026.
The transaction addresses a practical constraint in physical AI adoption: deploying humanoid hardware requires more than a reseller agreement. Enterprise customers need integration support, repairs, maintenance, and an operating model that works after a pilot ends. GMO contributes customer relationships and capabilities across connectivity, cloud, security, and finance; TechShare contributes robot support, repair, and implementation experience. Their combined offer is aimed at moving Unitree systems from research and education settings into industrial use cases such as logistics, factories, security, and construction.
For builders, the implication is that Japanese robot deployments may increasingly depend on partners that can package hardware with implementation and lifecycle support, rather than on robot performance alone. For investors, the alliance is a reminder that distribution and service networks can become important control points in physical AI markets, particularly where labor shortages create demand but deployment risk remains high. The agreement does not disclose the stake size or financial terms, so its commercial impact will depend on customer adoption and the partners' ability to build a scalable support operation.
