Holifya raises €2 million to expand AI-supported obesity treatment in Italy

Holifya, described as Italy's first digital clinic focused on pharmacologic obesity treatment, raised €2 million — €1.6 million in equity plus €0.4 million in debt and grants. The round was led by Next Age, the Silver Economy program under CDP Venture Capital's National Accelerator Network, with participation from AC75, Growth Engine (a repeat backer), Doorway, 20Fund, Zooga VC, and several angel investors. Founded in 2023, Holifya has treated over 3,000 patients using an AI system that integrates up to 3,000 biomarkers per patient (genetic, blood chemistry, anamnestic) with behavioral and clinical data collected across the care pathway. The AI predicts dropout risk and possible side effects and suggests dosage options to a physician, who validates the final therapy decision.

The raise lands as Italy formally recognized obesity as a chronic disease in 2025, just as GLP-1/GIP drugs reshape treatment demand. Of roughly 23 million overweight or obese Italian adults, about 11 million are GLP-1-eligible, yet fewer than 1% are currently in treatment — versus 2% in Germany and over 4% in the UK — while discontinuation runs high (30% drop off within a month, over half within a year). Holifya reports patients see roughly double the weight loss of drug-alone treatment (-17% vs -7.1% at six months) and triple the adherence, positioning AI-driven personalization as the layer that makes GLP-1 therapy actually stick, not just a diagnostic add-on, with 48-hour eligibility screening against a months-long public system wait.

The round itself is modest and earmarked mainly for the tech/data team and proprietary model development plus B2C growth, signaling an early-stage bet on building first-mover clinical infrastructure ahead of competitors and the national health system. Builders and investors eyeing vertical healthcare AI should track whether Holifya's outcomes data can translate into payer or NHS-adjacent partnerships, since the same low-penetration, high-discontinuation pattern likely exists in other EU markets now facing the same GLP-1 demand shock.
