The project incrementally updates KT Cloud's infrastructure expansion while adding a specified 50 MW development and 2029 completion target to metropolitan AI capacity plans.
KT Cloud starts 50 MW Ansan AI data center project targeting 2029 completion
KT Cloud announced on October 22 that it is breaking ground on an AI data center in Ansan, targeting completion in 2029. The company-owned facility will have 50 MW of total incoming power capacity and approximately 36,878 square meters of floor area across nine aboveground and two underground levels. It forms part of KT Cloud's stated strategy to supply 1 GW of AI data center capacity by 2031, expanding infrastructure for high-density AI servers in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The project highlights how AI infrastructure competition extends into power delivery, cooling and building design. Every server room is designed to support liquid cooling, while the structure accommodates heavy equipment with next-generation GPUs such as Nvidia's Vera Rubin in mind. KT Cloud also plans free cooling that combines exterior cooling coils with enclosed cooling towers to use lower outdoor temperatures during transitional seasons and winter. These specifications address the physical requirements of denser AI deployments; the article provides no measured efficiency results or confirmed GPU purchases.
For builders and investors, the concrete distinction is between planned electrical capacity and usable computing supply. The 50 MW figure describes the facility's incoming power capacity, rather than a disclosed IT load or installed GPU fleet. With completion targeted for 2029, the announcement adds a dated project to KT Cloud's expansion plans, but assessing its commercial contribution will require evidence of construction delivery, equipment deployment and customer commitments.
