MetaCircle raises seed funding for AI-assisted model architecture design
MetaCircle reports raising hundreds of millions of yuan across seed and seed-plus rounds less than six months after its May 2026 founding. Shunwei Capital led the seed round; subsequent investors included Shanghai Semiconductor Investment, 360's strategic investment arm and BV Baidu Ventures. The company will fund algorithm research, product exploration, hiring and evaluation benchmarks. Founder Ziming Liu, a Tsinghua University assistant professor, helped introduce Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks, or KAN, in 2024.
The company targets the research workflow behind AI development: its proposed meta-model would learn relationships among architectures, training configurations and training curves to predict candidate models' performance before full training finishes. This positions MetaCircle within AI developer tools, where value depends on improving research decisions and reducing experimentation. Its initial product exploration focuses on time-series forecasting. The distinction matters commercially: predicting training outcomes could improve architecture selection, but it does not establish that a system can autonomously design superior models.
Builders and investors should look for reproducible comparisons measuring prediction accuracy, generalization to unseen architectures and net research costs after accounting for the experiments needed to train the meta-model. MetaCircle's published Marin Hero Run loss forecast of 2.034 was close to Marin's separate 2.039 forecast, but neither number was a final measured result in the disclosed case. Internal claims of improvements over an LSTM baseline also lacked complete evaluation conditions. Those gaps leave efficiency gains unproven.
