Regna AI launches with Ondas and Palantir to build sovereign defense models

Ondas and Palantir have formed Regna AI, a standalone company initially wholly owned and funded by Ondas. It will adapt open-weight models for defense and other mission-critical operations using Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) and training infrastructure. Ondas will be its first customer, using the models for autonomous mission orchestration at the edge. Initial deployments are expected over the coming months, with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance as the first focus.

The venture connects mission-specific model development with physical AI deployment: drones, stratospheric balloons, ground vehicles, surface vessels and command-and-control systems. Its market proposition is customer control over sensitive mission data and deployment infrastructure, including operation under denied, degraded, intermittent or limited connectivity. That makes integration with operational workflows a central source of potential differentiation. The approach uses adapted open-weight models rather than requiring customers to build a frontier model; Palantir’s claim that sovereign models outperform frontier models remains unsupported by benchmarks in the report.

For builders and investors, the concrete diligence question is whether Regna AI can deliver reliable mission support across connected and disconnected environments. The announced systems would assess information, compare actions and propose mission-plan changes, with humans retaining review and authorization. Forward-deployed engineers will adapt models to customer workflows. Ondas provides an initial deployment customer, but broader demand remains unproven: the report names no additional customers, contract values or completed deployments.
