The AMW Read
Public preorders and reported RMB 210 million in prepayments make this a meaningful consumer-humanoid commercialization test, though delivery and retention remain unproven.
Qiyuan Robotics Opens Public Orders for Q1 and T1 Consumer Humanoids
Qiyuan Robotics, a unit of listed materials company Shangwei New Materials, opened public preorders on August 23 for its Q1 and T1 personal robots, with initial deliveries projected for September. Q1 is an 88-centimeter, roughly 15-kilogram foldable humanoid positioned as a customizable companion and development platform. T1 shifts between an indoor wheeled-legged humanoid mode and a four-legged outdoor mode; the company says it supports about 5 kilograms of payload and 90 kilograms of towing. Shangwei reported RMB 210 million (about $29 million) in consumer-robotics prepayments in its first-half 2026 report and said it operates experience stores in seven core cities.
The launch tests whether consumer humanoids can enter homes through narrower, emotionally legible use cases before they can perform general domestic labor. Rather than promise an all-purpose household worker, Qiyuan is combining companionship, customization, content creation, and developer access. That positions the robot closer to a personal device with an accessory ecosystem than to a labor-saving appliance. Reported prepayments are a demand signal, not evidence of completed sales, reliable home operation, or sustained engagement; those questions become measurable only after units reach customers.
For builders, the relevant benchmark is not a robot's demo repertoire but whether it earns repeat use after the first weeks through safe interaction, low setup friction, serviceability, and useful software updates. For investors, the September deliveries should clarify preorder conversion, manufacturing execution, return rates, and whether customizable shells and applications can create recurring revenue rather than a one-time hardware purchase.
