Sumitomo Electric Information Systems Adds Autonomous RAG and Copilot Access
Sumitomo Electric Information Systems said RakuRaku Document Plus Ver. 7.0 will add an autonomous retrieval-augmented generation agent on August 31, 2026. Rather than requiring a user to choose folders or repeatedly reword a query, the agent assembles search conditions, searches corporate documents, evaluates the results, and repeats the process until it finds relevant information. The release retains the existing option to ask questions against a specified folder or document, placing the new workflow alongside conventional document-scoped chat.
The launch is a practical sign of where enterprise RAG is moving: the useful product is no longer merely a chat interface over indexed files, but a retrieval loop that can translate ambiguous business questions into several searches. Sumitomo's QuickSolution enterprise-search product will also expose RakuRaku Document Plus content through an MCP server, enabling external agents such as Microsoft 365 Copilot to retrieve internal information while accounting for existing viewing rights. That places data access, search quality, and permission continuity at the center of the integration.
For builders, the near-term bar is to make iterative retrieval dependable within the permissions model customers already use, especially for policies, contracts, technical material, quality records, and sales documents. For investors, the more relevant question is whether document-management vendors can turn MCP connectivity into durable workflow adoption rather than treat it as a one-off Copilot connector. The separate AI-Chat option and generative-AI service contract requirements also show that adoption will depend on how customers navigate the full deployment model, not only the agent experience.
