Raymon Technology Raises Angel Funding for bibo, a Non-Verbal AI Companion Robot
Hangzhou-based Raymon Technology said it has completed an angel round worth tens of millions of RMB, co-led by Fashion Media Group and Hongyi Asset Management. Its bibo consumer companion robot uses vision, audio, touch and posture sensing, then responds through eye movements, expressions, motion and sound rather than continuous voice commands. The company says bibo has reached stable mass production, sold out its first early-bird batch, and recorded more than 120 minutes of average daily companionship time among active users as of September 1.
The announcement is a useful test of whether consumer embodied AI can compete on ambient, low-pressure interaction instead of the increasingly familiar model-plus-voice-assistant formula. Raymon argues that speech-first devices can create interaction fatigue and has positioned bibo as a collectible-style object meant to coexist with users at home, work and social settings. The approach puts the company among a growing set of Chinese consumer robotics startups pursuing emotional companionship through sensors, physical behavior and character design, where durable engagement matters more than a one-time hardware sale.
For builders and investors, the relevant metric is not the fundraising amount but whether reported interaction frequency translates into retention after novelty fades. Raymon will need to show that its multimodal behavior, compact hardware engineering and on-device model approach can sustain repeat use while controlling sensor, thermal and manufacturing costs. Its consumer-first strategy may also create useful product data before it considers partnerships with phone makers, robot companies, automakers, IP owners and consumer brands.
