Elastic and Tencent Cloud Expand Enterprise AI Search Partnership
Tencent Cloud and Elastic have expanded their strategic partnership and launched an enterprise edition of Tencent Cloud Elasticsearch Service. The offering combines Elastic's enterprise search and AI capabilities with Tencent Cloud's managed Elasticsearch service, targeting AI search, enterprise data access, and agent applications. It supports keyword and semantic retrieval, while allowing large language models and agents to call search results directly. Tencent Cloud said certain AI-search workloads achieved up to fivefold higher performance, 60% lower hybrid-search latency, and more than 50% lower memory use after its enhancements.
The partnership reflects a more consequential role for enterprise search: supplying reliable, retrievable context to models and agents rather than simply returning documents to human users. Retrieval quality increasingly determines whether an agent can ground an answer, choose the right tool, or reconstruct an operational event. Tencent cited its ima knowledge base and NIO's security-data platform as deployments; in the latter case, search and AI reportedly reduced attack-chain investigation from more than half a day of manual work to two minutes.
For builders, the practical test is whether retrieval can be added without rewriting existing data architecture while maintaining relevance, latency, and access controls at production scale. For investors, the deal underscores that search vendors can retain strategic relevance in the agent stack when they become the context layer connecting enterprise data, models, and workflows, rather than a standalone query interface.
