Xiaomi Robotics Targets Factory Deployment as It Lifts Assembly Success to 98%

Xiaomi Robotics publicly showed its next-generation humanoid, Tie Da, at the World Robot Conference in Beijing, where it handed flowers, scattered lightweight fragrance chips, fist-bumped, and shook hands. Xiaomi says the 1.70-meter, 66-kilogram robot has 66 degrees of freedom, roughly half in its hands, and performed the interactions through a model-driven system rather than backstage teleoperation. The company is prioritizing factory use over consumer homes, arguing that household adoption remains technically and commercially difficult in the near term.

The more consequential update is Xiaomi's factory progress. In March, the company said a robot ran autonomously for three hours at a self-tapping-nut station while meeting a 76-second production cycle and achieving a 90.2% bilateral installation success rate. By July, it said that rate had reached 98%, about one percentage point below human qualification performance. Xiaomi also reported roughly 90% success in center-console side-cover sorting and folded-bin recovery, extending its testing from rigid parts toward flexible materials, fine manipulation, bimanual coordination, and multi-robot timing.

For builders and investors, the relevant test is no longer a humanoid's public demonstration but whether performance holds through full shifts, variation in materials, and economically meaningful throughput. Xiaomi's combination of internal factories, robotics hardware, model development, and data collection gives it a controlled environment for that validation loop. Its reported results are promising but remain company-reported station-level metrics; evidence of uptime, labor savings, and repeatable deployment across factories will determine whether the program moves from engineering validation to a scalable manufacturing tool.
