Agentic AI startup Forty Two Maru announced it will sponsor the 2026 AI·SW-focused University Digital Competition, held in Seoul on August 11, as a supporting company. The event, organized by the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation and the AI·SW-focused University Council, drew 335 teams and 1,088 participants from 57 universities nationwide. This year's competition focuses on agentic AI in both software and AI tracks, with 24 teams advancing to the finals. Forty Two Maru will award its own 'Forty Two Maru Sponsor Award' to two teams, offering recruitment benefits to winners.

The sponsorship underscores Forty Two Maru's deeper push into the agentic AI talent pipeline. The company already operates the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Generative AI Leading Talent Training Project' as the lead organization, collaborating with Sungkyunkwan University, Pusan National University, UNIST, and Inha University to train about 80 AI specialists annually. By linking competition awards to hiring, Forty Two Maru is positioning itself as a key early-career talent magnet in a segment where skilled builders are scarce. CEO Kim Dong-hwan said the company looks forward to the creativity and execution students will demonstrate in defining problems and building solutions.

For builders and investors, this signals that agentic AI is maturing beyond model development into talent-led competition. As startups and labs race to ship agents, the ability to attract and assess practical AI skills becomes a competitive moat. Forty Two Maru's move — embedding itself in university competitions and government-backed training — suggests a playbook for accessing junior talent and influencing the curriculum of agentic AI. Investors should watch whether similar sponsorship-and-hiring strategies become common among agentic AI companies, as the talent pool remains a bottleneck for commercialization.
