Akamai Launches Workforce Protector to Secure Enterprise AI Adoption

Akamai Technologies has announced the launch of Akamai Workforce Protector, a new security solution designed to enable safe adoption of AI within enterprises. The product, formerly LayerX Security's solution following Akamai's acquisition, provides real-time visibility, AI usage control, secure enterprise browser capabilities, and data loss prevention (DLP). It integrates natively with Akamai's global private access solutions and adds a new security layer to its existing platform.

This launch addresses a critical gap in enterprise security as AI adoption accelerates. Traditional security models, built around zones and perimeters, are insufficient for modern workflows where employees interact with AI agents, APIs, and SaaS applications across distributed networks. Workforce Protector protects these interactions in real time, preventing data leaks to unauthorized AI models and ensuring governance over 'shadow AI' usage without requiring users to change browsers or networks. This positions Akamai to capture growing demand for secure enterprise browsers, which Gartner predicts will be adopted by 25% of organizations by 2028.

For builders and investors, this move signals a shift in enterprise security from protecting assets to protecting interactions. Companies deploying AI agents must prioritize security that follows the workforce and AI agents wherever they operate. Akamai's integrated approach, leveraging its global distributed network, could become a benchmark for enterprise AI security, pressuring competitors like Zscaler and Netskope to enhance their AI governance capabilities. Investors should watch for further consolidation in this space as security vendors race to offer comprehensive AI-era protection.
