AMD showed the Threadripper Halo Station at IFA 2026 in Berlin, a workstation pairing a 96-core Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX processor (Zen 5, 192 threads, up to 2TB of DDR5 memory) with Instinct MI350P GPU accelerators. The MI350P, a CDNA 4-based accelerator AMD introduced in May 2026, carries 144GB of HBM3E memory per card and up to 4TB/s of bandwidth over PCIe 5.0. The reference build ships with two MI350P cards and scales to four, drawing up to 1,550W combined (350W CPU, 600W per accelerator) under liquid rather than air cooling. AMD is positioning the system as a local "AI supercomputer" for developers, researchers, and enterprises to build and run AI models beyond a trillion parameters without cloud infrastructure, with availability through major PC makers starting in 2027.

The news is AMD packaging already-shipping Instinct silicon into a new form factor rather than introducing a new chip. It targets the desk-side niche opened by Nvidia's DGX-class workstations: teams that want to prototype, fine-tune, or run very large models on-premises instead of renting cloud GPU capacity.
