Anthropic launched Claude Docs and Slides in beta, letting users create, edit, export, and share documents and presentations from Claude chats. Alongside the tools, it is merging regular Chat and Cowork into a single “one Claude” interface, with Artifacts and Claude Design available from any conversation. Anthropic says Claude can now infer what a task needs so Cowork and Design capabilities surface with existing context, skills, and connectors. Docs start private, support simultaneous multi-editor collaboration and Google Doc-style comments, and—like Design and Slides—live at one shareable link that opens on mobile. The unified experience rolls out first to Pro and Max users on web, desktop, and mobile over the next few weeks, with Team and Free access later; Anthropic says there is nothing to turn on and users can still chat normally.
The move closes a structural gap the Verge flags between Anthropic’s model reputation and Google’s native Gemini hooks inside Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Frontier labs compete on capability; hyperscalers convert that capability into daily workflow share through productivity surfaces. Shipping first-party Docs and Slides is how Anthropic tries to keep knowledge work inside Claude instead of exporting draft text into Google’s suite—turning a model lead into stickier authoring and collaboration habits.
For builders and investors, the implication is stack migration: Anthropic is no longer only selling chat completions, but a deliverable layer where documents and decks are authored, commented, and shared. Watch whether Pro and Max users actually finish work in Claude versus bouncing back to Workspace, and whether collaborative editing plus the unified chat surface lifts seat retention against Gemini-in-Docs. That usage signal will matter more than the feature checklist for who owns the AI productivity interface.
