Anthropic upgrades Claude Tag so its Slack agent reads full threads and jumps in without being asked

Anthropic released an update to Claude Tag, the Slack-based feature that lets its Claude agent participate in team conversations. The agent can now read entire conversation threads rather than just the message it was tagged in, and it can proactively join a discussion without being explicitly summoned by a user.

The update targets a familiar friction point in enterprise AI adoption: getting a capable model to actually fit into how teams already work, rather than requiring people to switch context into a separate chat window. Reading full threads lets Claude respond with conversation-level context instead of a single isolated message, and unprompted participation moves the product from a reactive assistant toward something closer to a standing presence in the channel. It follows Anthropic's expansion of Claude Cowork to all paid accounts with Gmail and Google Drive integrations earlier this month, part of a broader push to embed Claude into the tools enterprise teams already use daily rather than a standalone app. Per the AI Market Watch index, which tracks roughly 5,000 companies and is coverage rather than a census, Anthropic-related items in our news pipeline rose to 289 in the last 90 days from 202 in the prior period.

For enterprise buyers and competing vendors, the tradeoff is direct: an agent that reads full threads and jumps in unprompted is more useful but also raises the bar for trust and control, since it now acts on context a user did not explicitly hand it. Vendors selling into Slack-adjacent workflows should expect proactive, context-aware agent behavior to become a baseline enterprise feature rather than a differentiator, and IT teams will need clearer controls over when an agent may initiate versus only respond.
