Cloudflare has entered the browser race with Kitesurf, a cloud-hosted browser designed specifically for AI agents, not human users. Announced on August 7, 2026, Kitesurf runs on Cloudflare's serverless Workers platform and aims to let AI developers build software that can navigate websites, fill out forms, and perform browser-based tasks without building their own browser stack. The company says Kitesurf was built in just 12 weeks, leverages components from Blitz, Firefox's Stylo CSS parser, and Boa JS, and is available for free in beta via Cloudflare's Browser Run service.
Kitesurf addresses a key bottleneck in agentic AI: the need for software to interact with the web in a human-like way, but without the overhead of a full consumer browser like Chrome or Chromium. Cloudflare claims Kitesurf is significantly more efficient in CPU and memory consumption than Chromium for common agentic tasks such as screenshots and HTML extraction, which directly cuts token costs and improves performance for AI applications.
