ElevenLabs launches Eleven v4 and Turbo for expressive and real-time speech
ElevenLabs has released Eleven v4, a text-to-speech model, alongside Eleven v4 Turbo, a low-latency variant for real-time applications, according to PingWest, citing Unite.AI. Both are available through ElevenAgents, ElevenCreative, and ElevenAPI, including free accounts. The models support more than 90 languages. ElevenLabs says v4 uses a new architecture to interpret tone, rhythm, emotion, characters, and context, with speaker-identity capture intended to maintain voice consistency and scene-level context to improve dialogue.
The release addresses two distinct requirements in generative audio: expressive delivery for creative production and responsiveness for interactive voice applications. Offering both variants across its agent, creative, and API products connects model development to multiple distribution surfaces. That makes the competitive question broader than voice quality alone: developers also need consistent speakers, controllable delivery, and suitable latency. ElevenLabs reports that v4 ranked first in the September 2026 Artificial Analysis Provider Voice Arena; that reported ranking does not establish Turbo's performance in a particular production workflow.
For builders, the concrete integration issue is control syntax: v4 accepts natural-language instructions and inline audio tags, while SSML tags have been discontinued in v4. Existing SSML-based integrations therefore need compatibility review before migration. Instant voice cloning can capture a voice from 10 seconds of audio, according to the report, and all clones require verified authorization from the voice owner. Pricing retains the existing credit structure, with 10,000 monthly credits on the free tier, providing an entry point for testing delivery and integration behavior.
