Good Tape launches Explore and becomes independent through management buyout
Copenhagen-based AI transcription company Good Tape has launched Explore, which connects new recordings with a user's previous transcripts to surface changed opinions, contradictions and supporting arguments, with links to the original recordings. Nordic Makers invested as part of a management buyout that ended Danish newsroom Zetland's ownership and gave CEO Lasse Finderup majority ownership. Alexander Aghassipour, Zendesk's co-founder and former chief product officer, led the investment and joined the board. Good Tape says it serves 3 million people across more than 150 countries and has completed over 15 million transcriptions in more than 100 languages.
The launch moves Good Tape further into the research workflow surrounding speech transcription. Finderup said the company recognized that transcription was becoming a commodity; Explore adds value by connecting material accumulated across interviews. In the AI media market, that shifts the competitive question from converting audio into text toward helping users retrieve relevant evidence from an existing archive. Links to original recordings give journalists and researchers a way to check surfaced connections, although the article provides no accuracy measurements for Explore's findings.
For builders and investors, the concrete test is whether archive exploration creates repeat usage beyond individual transcription jobs. Good Tape's reported reach establishes a distribution base, but those user and transcription totals do not establish paid adoption of Explore. Evaluating the new product therefore requires evidence that users return to older interviews, verify the connections it surfaces and find enough value to keep using the service.
