Mobilint joins LG, Doosan Robotics and Daedong on on-device AI chip projects
South Korean AI semiconductor company Mobilint is participating in four tasks under a government-backed on-device AI chip program. It will lead semiconductor development for LG Electronics' humanoid robots, Doosan Robotics' collaborative robots and Daedong's unmanned agricultural robots. Mobilint will also join LG's AI Home research effort for home appliances. The partners plan to test the chips and supporting software on actual devices, with product integration and commercialization to be pursued after the projects are completed.
The work puts an AI chip supplier inside the design process for several physical AI products. Robots need to process information about their surroundings quickly enough to act, while appliances impose tight power and cost limits. Mobilint's approach brings customer requirements into chip and software development early, then tests whether the resulting systems meet those requirements in working devices. That is a more meaningful test for a challenger chipmaker than chip specifications alone, but the announced projects have yet to establish commercial deployment.
For builders, the concrete question is whether one NPU and software environment can be adapted economically to the distinct needs of humanoid, collaborative and agricultural robots, as well as appliances. For investors, the next evidence to watch is measured performance and cost on partner devices, followed by a decision to integrate the technology into products. The partnerships give Mobilint access to those validation settings; they do not yet demonstrate production orders.
