Naver secures $10 billion from Brookfield and Nvidia for AI factory expansion

South Korean internet giant Naver has secured $10 billion in investment commitments from Canada-based alternative asset manager Brookfield and Nvidia to fund a major expansion of its AI factory infrastructure in Sejong, South Korea. Brookfield will act as the exclusive capital partner providing up to $9 billion, while Nvidia contributes $1 billion. The investment will triple Naver's Sejong AI factory capacity from 55MW to 200MW by 2028, with the facility built on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin and Blackwell DSX reference designs.

This deal is significant because it positions Naver as a sovereign AI compute provider for Korea, offering outsourced infrastructure and software stacks to domestic AI companies. By joining Brookfield and Nvidia’s $100 billion global AI infrastructure program and participating in Nvidia’s NemoTron alliance, Naver transitions from being a hyperscale consumer of Nvidia silicon to a regional compute supplier. This mirrors the hyperscaler-distribution pattern where tier-two players leverage capital and chip partnerships to become critical local compute hubs.

The move validates a structural shift in the AI substrate: sovereign AI compute is becoming a real, capital-intensive segment. Naver’s ambition to offer NemoClow blueprint-based AI agent toolkits to external enterprises signals an attempt to build a full-stack regional AI platform. The key risk is execution—whether Naver can deliver competitive service levels against AWS, Azure, and GCP, which also serve Korean customers but have far deeper infrastructure playbooks.
