Naver secures $10B from Brookfield and NVIDIA for AI factory expansion

South Korean internet giant Naver has secured a $10 billion investment from Canadian alternative asset manager Brookfield and NVIDIA to expand its AI factory infrastructure. The deal, announced at the San Francisco AI Summit by Naver chairman Lee Hae-jin, will see Brookfield contribute up to $9 billion as the exclusive capital partner, with NVIDIA investing $1 billion. Naver will fund the remainder. The investment will more than triple Naver's Sejong AI factory capacity from 55MW to 200MW by 2028, with the facilities powered by NVIDIA's Vera Rubin and Blackwell chips via the NVIDIA DSX reference design.

Why it matters: This deal crystallizes the hyperscaler-distribution pattern in a new geography—South Korea—and at a scale that rewrites the capital-cycle narrative for Asian AI infrastructure. By joining Brookfield's $100 billion global AI infrastructure program launched with NVIDIA and the Kuwait Investment Authority last year, Naver transitions from a domestic hyperscaler running its own data centers to a regional AI infrastructure provider serving external enterprises. The investment also advances the sovereign AI thesis: Naver explicitly frames its AI factory buildout as a vehicle for strengthening Korea's AI competitiveness while participating in NVIDIA's NeMo framework ecosystem.

Ground truth: The $10 billion figure is among the largest single AI infrastructure commitments in Asia, and notably pairs a hyperscaler capital partner (Brookfield) with a chipmaker (NVIDIA) as co-investors. The capital structure—Brookfield as the overwhelming majority capital provider at $9B, NVIDIA at $1B—de-risks Naver's buildout while embedding it into the Brookfield-NVIDIA global infrastructure template. The non-binding term sheet stage means execution risk remains, but the strategic alignment is clear: Naver becomes a regional distribution node for NVIDIA's AI factory blueprint, gaining access to the Vera Rubin reference design and NeMo ecosystem in exchange for providing Korean enterprise customers with turnkey AI compute. For Korea's startup ecosystem, this creates a local alternative to renting GPU clusters from US hyperscalers.
