OpenAI has expanded its Daybreak cyber defense service, introduced earlier this year, adding two tiers — Blue and Red — and rolling out a new purpose-built model, GPT-5.6-Cyber, available only at the Red tier. The Blue tier offers incident response, malware analysis, and patch validation, while Red provides advanced security testing and vulnerability research tools. GPT-5.6-Cyber, built on GPT-5.6 Sol, is initially restricted to trusted enterprise partners including Accenture, IBM, CrowdStrike, and Cloudflare.

The launch comes as AI-driven attacks multiply, with OpenAI warning that threat actors will increasingly use AI for autonomous attacks at unprecedented speed and scale. This expansion positions OpenAI to address the defensive side of a dual-use frontier model landscape, where the same underlying capabilities are already being weaponized. The move also mirrors Anthropic's release of its cyber-focused model Mythos, intensifying competition among top labs to own the AI security segment.

For enterprise defenders, the two-tier structure lowers the barrier to adopting AI-native security tools, with Blue serving as an accessible entry point. For builders and investors, the focus on limited-access frontier cyber models signals a growing regulatory and trust premium around high-risk capabilities. Expect security product roadmaps across vendors to increasingly hinge on exclusive access to lab-grade models, as demonstrated by the partner list for GPT-5.6-Cyber.
