PeopleX Raises ¥545M (~$3.6M) Series A to Build HR-Specialized LLM and Athena AI Agent Platform

Japanese HR AI company PeopleX raised ¥545 million (~$3.6M) in a Series A round combining equity and debt, backed by En, Angel Bridge, Openup Group, WiL, and One Capital, bringing its total funding to ¥782 million (~$5.2M) since founding. Alongside the round, PeopleX disclosed plans to build a proprietary large language model specialized in HR data and to develop "Athena," a "MotherAI OS" designed to unify the company's separate AI products and the data each one generates.

The company already runs conversational AI tools for recruiting, employee development, and one-on-one meetings — PeopleX AI Interview, AI Role-Play, and AI One-on-One — deployed across more than 3,000 client organizations. Its disclosed metrics stand out for a vertical ops-AI vendor at this stage: annual recurring revenue reached ¥1 billion within 15 months of launch, grew more than 17x over the past year, and now sits alongside monthly revenue above ¥200 million, a 0.2% monthly gross revenue churn rate, and net revenue retention above 140%. Moving from stitched-together point products toward an owned model and orchestration layer marks a step most narrow HR-AI vendors haven't taken this early.

PeopleX plans national TV and taxi advertising for its existing products this fall, will soon launch "PeopleX AI Sales" for sales teams, and intends to extend into marketing, SDR, BDR, and customer-success use cases by next spring. It already operates in more than 10 countries and is targeting roughly 20 acquisitions by 2031 to expand across Asia-Pacific — a roadmap that treats HR ops tooling as a platform play rather than a single-product bet, worth watching for investors tracking retention-led expansion in enterprise vertical AI.
