Sainaptic raises £1 million to expand AI-assisted vocational assessment
UK-based Sainaptic has raised £1 million in a round co-led by Cornerstone VC and Ufi Ventures, with Elm Venture Partners and Brighteye Ventures participating. The startup also announced a partnership with assessment management software provider Skilltech Solutions to bring AI-assisted portfolio marking to apprenticeship assessment organizations. The joint offering is expected in the first quarter of 2027, initially covering selected apprenticeship standards. Funding will support engineering, product and sales hiring, alongside expansion into quality assurance, analytics and personalized assessments.
The deal places Sainaptic within enterprise workflow AI: its commercial opportunity centers on reducing assessment providers' marking costs and feedback delays. Vocational qualifications involve essays, reports, presentations and professional discussions that require trained assessors. Sainaptic says its domain-specific models have cut marking time for some qualifications from 45 minutes to eight seconds, with potential annual savings of up to £150,000. It also reports less than 1 percent deviation from expert assessors. These are company-reported results, and the partnership keeps qualified assessors responsible for final decisions.
For builders and investors, the concrete question is whether those reported gains translate into savings across the apprenticeship standards covered by the rollout. Skilltech contributes an assessment delivery platform and relationships with assessment organizations, giving Sainaptic a distribution route within an existing workflow. Evaluating the deployment means accounting for the human review needed before a final grade, alongside the AI's marking speed and agreement with experts.
