Novel application of vision-based AI to after-sales customer service within a known segment, but impact remains sub-segment focused.
Weilian Intelligence (微链智能) has secured nearly RMB 10 million (~$1.4M) in angel funding from investors including Li Zexiang (李泽湘) and Qi Lu (陆奇), with participation from Dongguan Qingshuiwan Phase II Venture Capital, Ningbo Intelligent Technology Research Institute, and Beijing Qiji Chuangtan Phase II Venture Capital. The 2023-founded company, led by 31-year-old Zhejiang University PhD and founder Ning Dongdong, is developing what it describes as the world's first vision-based after-sales technical customer service AI robot for e-commerce.
The startup targets a gap in the customer service market: while AI has automated simple pre-sales queries, complex after-sales technical support for consumer electronics and hardware remains largely manual. Weilian's system distinguishes itself through multimodal capabilities—understanding images and videos, interpreting technical diagrams and structural drawings, and conducting multi-turn diagnostic questioning autonomously without human review. The company reports it can resolve 80% of after-sales technical service issues in trials, with a focus on consumer electronics.
For builders and investors, Weilian's approach highlights a shift toward vertical AI applications with domain-specific multimodal understanding, rather than general-purpose chatbots. The company aims to move beyond selling software licenses (RMB 50,000-100,000 per client) to full service contracts at roughly RMB 1 million per client, with claims of saving clients RMB 1 million annually. The backing of Li Zexiang's consumer electronics ecosystem (270+ brands) gives Weilian a distribution advantage. The multi-round support from Li and Lu underscores investor interest in robotics and physical-AI-adjacent ventures that combine deep technical expertise with concrete commercial application.
