WorkBuddy, Tencent's full-scenario AI agent workspace, has launched on Galaxy Kylin OS and UOS (Union Tech Software), the two leading domestically developed Chinese operating systems, with listings also added to the openKylin and deepin community app stores. Users can install it by searching "WorkBuddy," and new users receive 2,000 free credits. Tencent described the rollout as a deep co-engineering effort with the OS vendors, covering system login integration, device interconnection, skill invocation, and output preview, rather than a simple code port, aiming for native-level performance on domestic Linux. WorkBuddy covers document drafting, data analysis, code assistance, and content creation, with local file processing, parallel multi-agent execution, remote device control, and scheduled automation tasks.
This is the third leg of a platform-coverage push: WorkBuddy already shipped a government-customized edition, "Bay Command," for Guangdong province civil servants in June, and a HarmonyOS PC version in July. With Kylin and UOS now covered, WorkBuddy spans all three major domestic Chinese OS camps, positioning Tencent as an early full-stack AI agent vendor inside China's state-driven domestic-substitution software stack, where government and state-owned-enterprise procurement increasingly favors non-Western operating systems.
For AI agent vendors targeting China's public sector, distribution now runs through domestic OS app stores as much as through cloud platforms; a vendor unable to show native Kylin/UOS compatibility risks exclusion from government procurement regardless of model quality, and this reinforces that China's public-sector AI market is increasingly gated by OS-level sovereignty requirements, not just data-residency rules.
