This is an incremental update to a generative-media player we already cover: a sub-$500M round and a sub-$5B offer, both unconfirmed beyond the price, so the impact stays within AI film and video.
Utopai Studios raises $60M at a $1B valuation and draws an acquisition offer of up to $3B
Utopai Studios, an AI film startup, has closed a $60 million round at a $1 billion valuation, according to a brief from Sina Finance. The report says the company has also received an acquisition offer that could value it at up to $3 billion. Utopai plans to release three feature films in theaters next year. The brief does not name the investors, the potential buyer or the terms of the offer.
The deal shows where AI video money may be heading. Most capital in generative video has gone to model developers and creator tools. Utopai is pitching itself as a studio that ships finished films, not as a model vendor. Earlier this month we reported that its Utopai X model is built on MiniMax, ranked second in a blind text-to-video test, and is tied to the company's PAI production workflows ahead of its planned 2027 releases. Today's news puts a price on that plan before any feature has been released. A $1 billion valuation on a $60 million raise, plus an offer up to three times higher, means buyers are paying for a pipeline that is still unproven. Per the AI Market Watch index, we logged two news items on the company in the last 90 days and none in the 90 days before. That count covers only the sources our pipeline ingests.
For investors, the key question is whether a studio running on a licensed base model can keep its value once theatrical results come in. Utopai's edge depends on workflow, distribution and the films' reception, not on owning a model. The proposed $3 billion price should be treated as a ceiling until a buyer and terms are confirmed. For builders, the round suggests that companies that own the whole production process can now earn valuations that model-wrapper tools usually can't.
