Vantora Raises Over $100M From Silversmith Capital, Moves to an Enterprise-Exclusive AI Model
Vantora, formerly UP.Labs, received a growth investment of more than $100 million from Silversmith Capital Partners on September 16, 2026 — the profitable company's first outside funding. Proceeds will expand enterprise partnerships, continue building its data-ontology product COSMOS, and fund AI and commercial hires. In a TechCrunch interview, founder John Kuolt described a shift from building companies for the open market to creating them exclusively for one enterprise partner. Named partners include Porsche AG, Alaska Airlines, J.B. Hunt, Wabash, and TDG. The partner co-invests at formation, becomes first customer, and holds an option to later acquire the company into its core business.
The model differs from incubators, consulting firms, and corporate venture arms: Vantora surfaces a problem inside a partner's operations, then builds a dedicated team, product, and cap table around it, with the partner holding equity from inception. That protects a partner's process knowledge from reaching competitors and guarantees Vantora a first customer, but caps each company's addressable market to one buyer — closer to a dedicated outsourced product team than a scalable vendor. Vantora calls this "Sovereign AI," though the term covers ownership control, not confirmed data isolation; COSMOS's deployment location, data-access boundaries, and IP terms are undisclosed. Vantora reports 17 companies launched since 2022, a target of 20 by end-2026, and 79% year-over-year revenue growth — figures that are self-reported and unaudited.
The governance test arrives at the first buy-back deal: valuation method, IP allocation, and whether founding teams can decline remain unspecified, and with no outside customers, there's no external price signal to anchor a sale. For builders, joining a Vantora-created company trades open-market upside for a funded, guaranteed first customer inside a single-buyer structure — a trade-off best weighed against the two disclosed use cases so far, manufacturing quote automation and airline maintenance planning.
