South Korean AI startup UNX (언엑스) has raised an undisclosed seed round led by Kakao Ventures, with participation from Schmidt and Mark&Company. The company develops AI-powered virtual creators that can autonomously stream live broadcasts 24/7, engaging with audiences without human intervention. Its proprietary "Fandom Engine" system maintains consistent character personality and lore across interactions, distinguishing it from human-operated virtual creators whose performance depends on the operator's condition. UNX already operates its own AI creator IPs including "AISA High School Streaming Club" and "Saju Oppa," and plans to expand partnerships with external IP holders in webtoons, entertainment, games, beauty, and brands. The company is led by CEO Kim Kwang-min, a former early member of TikTok Korea.
This deal sits at the intersection of the emerging AI creator and virtual influencer segment, which has seen early traction with precedent cases like Neuro-sama and Shizuku AI globally. UNX's approach — focusing on live-streaming interaction rather than one-on-one text chat — represents a meaningful product differentiation, targeting the communal viewing experience that drives platform-native fandoms.
