Ant Group upgrades GPASS to Lingying, an agent-native OS for AI wearables

At the 2026 Inclusion Bund Summit on September 11, Ant Group said its GPASS trusted-connection framework for smart terminals has been upgraded to Lingying, positioned as an agent-native operating system and open platform for AI glasses and related devices. The stack covers natural interaction, agent runtime, multi-device coordination, and security, and is being opened to chip partners, hardware makers, and developers. Senior vice president Zhou Zhifeng said Ant will not build hardware; it aims to supply identity, security, payment, and device-cloud coordination so vendors can focus on products and scenes. Over the past year, GPASS work with terminal partners spanned glasses payments, city companion tours, shared bikes, and parking fees—exposing chip and system re-adaptation, fragmented service ecosystems, and identity or authorization risk during agent execution.

The upgrade matters because it pushes Ant from connecting services into the agent execution base on physical devices. As wearables shift from passive screens to intent-driven service gateways, competition moves beyond hardware specs toward who owns identity, authorization, tool calling, and orchestration across chips and form factors. Ant frames a two-layer agent infrastructure thesis: commercial trust on one side, device and service connection on the other. Lingying abstracts cameras, displays, sensors, and temple controls so developers can reuse apps across terminals, while built-in checks verify device identity, isolate sensitive data locally, authorize tool use, and keep operations auditable. Per the AI Market Watch index, Ant Group logged 16 news items in the last 90 days versus 2 in the prior window—coverage of pipeline-ingested sources only—showing how densely the company is sequencing AI product moves.

For builders and investors, the concrete question is whether Lingying becomes a shared adapter layer across chip architectures or stays a China-ecosystem distribution play anchored in Ant’s identity and payment rails. Reference designs and partner schemes shown at the summit, plus live trials in Shanghai commercial districts for city companion services, point to an open-platform bet: cut per-device adaptation cost and enable lightweight, scene-triggered apps on small or screenless devices. Joint work with CAICT’s Tel Terminal Laboratory on evaluation labs and safety standards also casts device-side agent autonomy as a standards race, not only a product race.
