Baidu embeds its Duozi AI agent across the full Xiaodu smart-hardware lineup, pushing agentic AI into the home.

The AMW Read

Extends Baidu's already-disclosed agent stack (KuKu, ERNIE) into consumer hardware at household scale, incremental for Baidu but segment-relevant as a distribution model for home AI agents.

Baidu embeds its Duozi AI agent across the full Xiaodu smart-hardware lineup, pushing agentic AI into the home.

At an AI Day event in Beijing on September 8, Baidu said its Chaoneng Xiaodu assistant completed an "agentification" upgrade, with the Duozi agent now the underlying layer across Xiaodu's smart displays, the Tiantian companion device, smart cameras, and smart speakers. Rather than only executing commands, the assistant can break a stated goal into steps, coordinate tools, and carry a task through to completion. Examples cited: parents create family schedules and homework reminders via one WeChat message that syncs to a smart display; children complete and submit audio or video homework on-device; an upgraded caregiving mode turns a stated need into monitoring tasks with tiered alerts and long-run habit reports. Four new devices ship the update, including the Tiantian Companion Machine Ultra, X9 Ultra display, C1500 camera, and a Pro Max speaker due September 28.

Baidu frames this as the latest move in a chip-cloud-model-agent stack spanning Kunlun chips, its cloud, the ERNIE model, Duozi, and the Apollo Go robotaxi unit, arriving a week after its September 1 Hong Kong dual-primary listing and September 7 Stock Connect inclusion. It follows Baidu's enterprise KuKu office agent, past 25 million monthly users in late August, and a stated ERNIE revenue-comeback goal — three agent surfaces (enterprise, model, now home hardware) shipped in under three weeks. Per the AI Market Watch index, Baidu-tagged pipeline coverage eased to 25 items over the past 90 days from 37 prior, a name-matched count over ingested sources, not a census.

For builders and investors, the signal is distributional: Xiaodu's claimed reach of over 55 million households turns existing hardware into an agent-adoption channel that skips the app-install funnel, a path few consumer-AI competitors outside China currently have. Watch for Baidu disclosing engagement metrics on the home agent the way it now does for KuKu — that would confirm household agents as a real revenue line, not a bundled feature.
