At the 2026 Feishu Future Unlimited Conference in Beijing on September 15, ByteDance CEO Liang Rubo said that once AI agents reached a usable stage, agents, models, and collaboration environments must be tightly fused to create real value. On that judgment, he said ByteDance completed an organizational realignment about two months ago that brought Doubao, Feishu, and Volcano Engine together to build work and productivity products, and that the company will put more resources into the enterprise market so intelligence can create value inside organizations faster. Feishu marks its tenth year as an internal project; Liang contrasted ByteDance consumer products that typically ship in about three months with Feishu’s three-year path to a global release in April 2019.
The signal is strategic packaging, not a single product launch. Doubao supplies intelligence, Feishu carries enterprise context and tools as the collaboration surface, and Volcano Engine provides models, compute, and developer tooling so firms can turn proprietary experience into their own agents that also plug into Feishu. Liang cast office collaboration as the durable layer recreated in every tech cycle—citing Microsoft’s path from Office to Office 365 to Teams—and argued this AI wave will be a larger industrial peak than PC, Web, or mobile. That extends ByteDance’s earlier Doubao side-workspace move for in-chat task execution into a company-wide bet that the work surface, not the chat box alone, wins enterprise AI.
For builders and investors, the implication is that Chinese enterprise AI procurement is consolidating around collaboration suites that host both vendor agents and customer-built agents on shared model and compute rails. Point solutions without a work-surface home face a harder multi-seat sell; platforms that cannot sit inside Feishu-like context and Volcano-like model tooling will struggle against ByteDance’s bundled pitch as the company redirects more capital and headcount at enterprise.
