Persona raises $10 million for a personal AI assistant with a $179 wristband
Cal AI co-founder Zach Yadegari has launched Persona and raised $10 million, according to PingWest's report citing TechCrunch. Vine Ventures led the round, with participation from Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global. Persona combines a personal AI assistant with a $179 wearable wristband. Yadegari left Cal AI in June after MyFitnessPal acquired the company in March for an undisclosed amount. He is working with another co-founder whose identity has not been announced.
Persona enters the personal-agent market with hardware as an access point and cloud-based models providing the intelligence. Its stated design makes activation and permissions central to the product: Yadegari says the wristband will not continuously listen or record and can be activated by a button or wrist gesture. That approach makes the relevant competitive question whether a dedicated wearable offers enough convenience to justify another device. The financing supports a new entrant, but the report provides no usage or task-completion evidence that would establish consumer demand or reliable execution.
For builders and investors, the concrete diligence question is whether Persona's permission controls hold up during real tasks. The company says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, users can delete their data, and protections address phishing and prompt injection. It also says the assistant cannot view credit card information and purchases require user approval. These are stated safeguards, rather than independently demonstrated results; testing them alongside activation reliability would help assess whether the wristband can support useful personal assistance without creating unwanted actions.
