Champ AI raises $8.5M seed led by Redpoint for enterprise AI agent platform
Champ AI, a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2026 by Jagannath Putrevu, Ted Cheng, and Peter Lin, has emerged from stealth with an $8.5 million seed round led by Redpoint Ventures. The round also included defy.vc, SV Angel, and angel investors Max Mullen and JJ Zhuang. The company is building an enterprise AI agent platform focused on automating complex back-office workflows including browser tasks, document processing, and phone-based operations across healthcare, finance, insurance, and logistics verticals.
This seed raise is a characteristic entrant into the crowded enterprise-automation segment, where numerous startups promise to replace manual workflows with AI agents. Champ AI differentiates by combining workflow discovery—identifying which processes can be automated—with agent-based execution, a value proposition that echoes patterns seen in earlier AI-native automation plays such as Automation Anywhere's AI pivot and UiPath's recent agentic expansions. The $8.5 million amount places this in the standard seed range for enterprise AI agents, far below the mega-rounds that trigger cross-substrate capital-cycle signals.
The presence of Redpoint, a tier-1 venture firm, alongside SV Angel signals investor appetite for vertical-specific agent plays that avoid the hyperscaler distribution trap by targeting complex, regulated industries. However, Champ AI will face entrenched competition from both legacy RPA vendors layering on AI and native agent platforms like Adept and Inflection's enterprise pivots. The key open question is whether a startup with $8.5M can achieve the depth of integration needed in healthcare and insurance compliance workflows, where data-moat and regulatory knowledge are critical barriers.
