VAST Raises $446 Million in Series B and B+ Rounds for Generative AI 3D
The AMW Read
Breaks down the round composition behind an already-reported ~$700M six-month raise by a known China-based generative-3D player, reinforcing capital concentration without resolving an open debate.
VAST Raises $446 Million in Series B and B+ Rounds for Generative AI 3D
VAST, a China-based startup building generative AI models for 3D and spatial content, closed $446 million across its Series B and Series B+ rounds, led by Matrix Partners China. Perfect World, BlueFocus, and 37 Interactive Entertainment joined alongside financial backers CICC Capital, CDH VGC, and CMC Capital Partners, with existing shareholders oversubscribing to retain their stakes. The round extends a six-month run that has brought VAST's total raised to roughly 5 billion yuan (~$700M), following the more-than-1-billion-yuan (~$138M) Series A3 closed in July 2026 with Geely and gaming and internet investors.
Generating 3D assets is a fundamentally harder computational problem than 2D image synthesis — it requires modeling geometry, lighting, and physics rather than predicting pixels, which has kept high-end asset generation out of reach for smaller studios. The investor mix here is the signal: gaming publishers and an automaker are funding the same startup within one financing cycle, pointing to real procurement demand from studios that want to cut the hundreds of human-hours currently spent rigging and texturing game characters. Per the AI Market Watch index, VAST's tracked cumulative funding stood at just $50 million before this run — a gap that reflects tracking lag across the index's roughly 5,000-company coverage, not a slowdown in the company's actual fundraising pace.
For builders, the concentration of capital behind one China-based generative-3D player raises the bar for smaller entrants, who will likely need to specialize in a narrow asset class or pipeline stage rather than compete head-on. For investors, the corporate-strategic roster — spanning gaming, marketing, and automotive — is worth watching as a template for how vertical demand, not just financial sponsors, is now underwriting China's AI infrastructure buildout.
