Hisense has introduced JUOS, a home-focused AI operating system for TVs, projectors, smart displays and connected appliances. The company says its self-developed Xinhai model and four native engines underpin Super Xiaju, a system-level assistant intended to identify household members, interpret context, coordinate multiple agents and execute tasks across devices. Initial software updates are due from September for recent Hisense U, E and A series TVs, laser TVs, Vidda TVs and Vidda projectors.
The launch is more consequential than another TV chatbot because it turns the television into a proposed control plane for identity, content, device state and household permissions. Hisense is betting that a dedicated home operating layer can convert fragmented smart-home endpoints into an always-available agent that can act rather than merely answer. Its claims of more than 95% intent-recognition and tool-execution accuracy, sub-175-millisecond multimodal first-token latency and an L3 terminal-intelligence certificate are company-reported, not independent benchmarks. The market question is whether proactive behavior earns trust without creating false actions or privacy friction among family members.
For builders, JUOS raises the bar for integrations: device APIs, permission models, handoff continuity and reversible actions matter as much as a polished conversational interface. For investors, the key signal will be rollout quality across Hisense's installed display base and whether its home ecosystem produces repeatable cross-device use, not a standalone assistant feature. A hardware incumbent with screens already at the center of rooms may have a distribution advantage, but only if users retain clear control over shared memory and system access.
