Nscale data center financing may receive Nvidia credit guarantee
Nvidia is discussing a multibillion-dollar credit guarantee for Nscale's planned data center in West Virginia, according to Global Economic, citing Bloomberg and The Information. The guarantee would support construction and power costs. Anthropic plans to use computing services at the site powered by Nvidia chips. The guarantee has not been signed, and its size and terms remain unsettled.
The talks show how a chip supplier could take a more direct role in financing AI cloud capacity. Nvidia is already an investor in Nscale. A guarantee could help Nscale borrow for construction, although it would not itself be an equity investment. The report also says Nscale and Anthropic are discussing a separate $45 billion computing agreement for a second building at the site. That potential contract value is not the size of Nvidia's proposed guarantee.
For investors, the financing terms and delivery schedule are as important as the headline contract value. Nscale must secure power, complete construction, and install chips before it can supply the planned capacity. Prior AI Market Watch coverage reported that Microsoft withdrew from a delayed Nscale project in the United Kingdom. The West Virginia guarantee remains under discussion, so its effect on financing costs and project delivery is not yet clear.
