OpenAI announced workplace features at its September 29 DevDay conference in San Francisco, bringing document creation and team collaboration into ChatGPT. Space provides a shared workspace for pages, files, colleagues, and Dots, its newly launched agent personas. Pages is a word processor supporting writing, research, charts, images, and information visualization. OpenAI also announced collaborative slides that users can generate through conversation, then edit and comment on with colleagues and agents. Slides will roll out in the coming weeks; they were not available at announcement.
The launch positions OpenAI more directly in enterprise operations software, where the competitive question is who owns the everyday work surface. Space gathers shared context, Pages supplies document creation, and slides extend that surface into presentations. Together, these features bring ChatGPT closer to the office workflows served by Microsoft and Google. Microsoft remains a close OpenAI partner, making this both a product expansion and a sharper competitive overlap. Agent collaboration is central to the design: users can instruct a page to check a team channel and update itself with the findings.
