Samsung Electronics has joined a consortium investing in Dutch AI semiconductor startup Euclyd’s Series A, a round totaling €200 million (about ₩320 billion). Co-investors include Somerset Capital Partners, EQT’s Scale Up Europe Fund, and Innovation Industries, AI Times reported citing CNBC. Founded in 2024, Euclyd is developing inference-focused AI chip systems on an architecture distinct from Nvidia GPUs, covering both compute processors and memory design. The stack has not yet been validated in large-scale commercial environments; commercialization is targeted for 2028, with revenue plans spanning enterprise chip and server-rack sales plus intellectual-property licensing.
The financing matters because a top memory manufacturer is now inside the capital stack of a pre-commercial challenger-silicon bet aimed at inference economics, not another general-purpose GPU clone. Euclyd CEO Bernardo Kastrup argued that AI’s upside stays capped unless the underlying infrastructure changes, and he pointed to Samsung’s engineering depth and supply-chain network as help beyond cash. In a market still organized around Nvidia for training and inference GPUs, strategic memory-plus-systems partners are how early chip startups try to close manufacturing and rack-level gaps before first commercial silicon.
For builders and investors, treat this as a long-dated option on alternative inference silicon rather than near-term capacity: product proof is still years out, and the commercial path depends on rack systems and licensing as much as a discrete accelerator. The concrete watch item is whether Samsung’s role translates into memory co-design or supply-chain support that actually shortens Euclyd’s path to 2028 ship dates.
