Anthropic Signs Reported $35B Lambda Cloud Deal for Texas AI Compute

Anthropic has reportedly signed a $35 billion cloud-computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Lambda, according to PingWest, citing AIBase. The arrangement would use a Texas data center developed by Hut 8, with Nvidia holding the lease rights; Lambda would deploy Nvidia chips there to provide cloud services to Anthropic. The report also says Anthropic previously agreed to a $45 billion compute lease with Nvidia-backed Nscale, planned to use Vera Rubin chips from 2027.

The deal illustrates how frontier-model competition is increasingly being decided by long-duration access to power, data-center capacity, and accelerators as much as by model releases. Anthropic is not simply buying elastic cloud capacity: the reported scale suggests an effort to secure dedicated infrastructure across several providers and hardware paths. That matters because the economics of training and serving capable models increasingly depend on guaranteed supply, rather than on spot availability when demand peaks.

For builders, diversified capacity arrangements may become a competitive advantage for products with sustained inference demand, but they also raise the bar for smaller companies that cannot commit at this scale. For investors, the key question is whether these commitments translate into durable unit-cost advantages and reliable deployment capacity, or instead lock model labs into a capital-intensive race whose utilization must keep rising to justify the spend.
