Corgi, an AI-native commercial insurer targeting startups, has completed four funding rounds in 2026, with its valuation soaring from $630 million at the start of the year to $4 billion—a six-fold increase in six months. Cumulative funding now exceeds $374 million even before the latest round. The company, which focuses on underserved small and micro businesses, says its annualized revenue run rate crossed $100 million by May 2026, up from $40 million in January, with a target of $450 million by year-end.
Corgi's rapid growth rests on a contrarian strategy: it uses AI to automate the entire insurance value chain—quoting, underwriting, binding, and claims—to serve clients that traditional carriers ignore due to high servicing costs and low premiums. Its core system, Hammurabi, cuts underwriting time from weeks to 30 seconds, and claims handling from weeks to days. The company also launched AI Liability in May 2026, a modular product covering algorithmic bias, AI hallucination, data poisoning, deepfakes, and even AI-caused bodily injury, positioning itself as a risk-definer for the AI age.
A key structural advantage is its use of a Risk Retention Group (RRG) structure, which bypasses multi-state licensing by operating through a single Arizona-domiciled entity (TRRG). This allows rapid cross-state expansion but carries risks: no state guarantee fund backstop and potential risk concentration among similar AI-focused policyholders.
This aggressive valuation trajectory underscores the capital market's appetite for AI applications with clear revenue traction and a distinct go-to-market wedge. Corgi's model—combining AI-driven operational efficiency with a regulatory arbitrage—mirrors the "fastest ARR ramp" pattern seen in AI coding copilots, but applied to a deeply traditional industry. The sustainability of its RRG model remains an open question, echoing prior skeptics' concerns about risk pooling in nascent tech sectors.
