Rebellions Enters Early Talks With NVIDIA on a Potential Deal

NVIDIA is reportedly holding early discussions with South Korean NPU developer Rebellions on possible technology cooperation, an equity investment, or an acquisition. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, said NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang met Rebellions co-founder and CEO Sung-Hyun Park in Santa Clara this week. No transaction terms or structure have been agreed, and either party could still pursue a partnership rather than a deal.

The talks put inference hardware at the center of NVIDIA's next competitive decision. Rebellions develops data-center NPUs optimized for inference, the workload that processes live AI-service requests and increasingly rewards power efficiency and lower operating costs. NVIDIA dominates AI training GPUs, but acquiring, licensing, or investing in an inference specialist could broaden its position as production inference becomes a larger share of AI infrastructure demand. The report also notes potential antitrust scrutiny in the United States and review in South Korea, where AI chips are treated as strategically important.

For builders, the practical issue is whether Rebellions remains an independently available alternative for on-premise and data-center inference deployments. The company recently acquired SqueezeBits in a stock swap to combine NPU design with model optimization, making a deeper NVIDIA relationship consequential for its full-stack inference strategy. Investors should distinguish a confirmed acquisition from the several structures now under discussion and watch whether any eventual arrangement preserves Rebellions' product autonomy.
