Ramp Launches Router, a Multi-Model Gateway for Enterprise AI Spend
The AMW Read
Ramp's entry into multi-model routing meaningfully expands the infrastructure player map and could shift an established finance-software distribution channel toward inference control.
Ramp Launches Router, a Multi-Model Gateway for Enterprise AI Spend
Ramp has launched Router.com, a U.S.-only API gateway that lets businesses access and switch among models from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Moonshot, MiniMax, Nvidia, xAI, and Z.ai. It offers routing strategies based on providers' flex tiers, up to three customer-selected benchmarks, or a rule that reserves more expensive models for harder tasks. Ramp says the service can cut customer inference costs by 40%. It is free through the end of 2026, excluding underlying inference charges, and includes a $26 launch credit; post-2026 pricing has not been disclosed.
The move turns Ramp's existing AI token-usage and spend-management tools into a control point for the requests that create that spend. Rather than selling only visibility after inference, it can influence model choice, cost, latency, fallback behavior, and testing through the same dashboard. That places an expense-management company beside specialist model gateways such as OpenRouter, although Router currently carries a narrower model catalog. Its default retention policy is also material for enterprise adoption: Ramp records inputs, outputs, and tool calls for one year unless customers opt out, while saying it removes personally identifiable information before using content to improve the product.
For builders, Router makes model-routing policy a product decision rather than infrastructure plumbing, but teams should validate routing quality, failure handling, latency, and retention settings before consolidating workloads behind one gateway. For investors, the key test is whether Router becomes a distribution wedge into AI teams and new relationships with model labs and inference providers, rather than a low-margin add-on to Ramp's finance platform.
