AI Times, citing The Information, reports that SpaceX has folded Cursor into SpaceXAI after a reported $60 billion acquisition, with Elon Musk urging the coding-tools team to help close Grok's gap with Anthropic. Cursor CEO Michael Truell will report directly to Musk; co-founders Aman Sanger and Sualeh Asif are set to lead pretraining and machine-learning roles, while product leader Andrew Milich remains in place. The report also says Cursor staff are being assigned across AI teams as the organizations combine their internal operations.
The move turns a leading AI coding product into an operating asset for a model-building effort, not simply a standalone developer-software business. Cursor had already expanded beyond its editor with the beta launch of Origin, its code-hosting platform, and integrated code-review technology from Graphite. Bringing that workflow, its engineering talent, and its product feedback loop into SpaceXAI could give Grok a more direct route to developer usage and iteration. The source, however, provides no new model benchmarks or product-release timeline, so the competitive effect remains an execution question rather than demonstrated capability progress.
