The round highlights a manufacturing service that combines robotic assembly with a shared model, though its broader economics remain unproven.
Foundry Robotics raises $100 million for robotic assembly factories
California-based Foundry Robotics has raised a $100 million Series A led by Marlinspike to build more robotic assembly facilities. Khosla Ventures, Red Glass Ventures, SE Ventures, Wing VC and Axiom Ventures also participated. Foundry operates a 130,000-square-foot facility serving five paying customers, including shipbuilder HII. Its work includes assembling robotic dogs, underwater vehicles, quadcopters and satellite subsystems.
Foundry is bringing a robotics foundation model into a manufacturing service. The company builds and operates factories where customers pay for assembly. Its FoundryOS system coordinates robotic cells, schedules and assembly processes. Foundry also builds some grippers and fasteners while partnering with suppliers of robot arms and manipulators. CEO Adarsh Kulkarni says production data helps fine-tune its models across products. The report does not provide independent evidence of how much that improves performance.
For investors and builders, the test is whether one factory can switch between products while maintaining reliable output and economics. Foundry already has paying customers, and HII has engaged it to help scale production of smaller unmanned systems. The report does not disclose production costs, changeover times or margins. Those measures would help assess whether its shared model and facilities can scale across customers.
